Siem Reap Arrival and Angkor Temples: On arrival in Siem Reap, transfer to your hotel. Then set out for a tour of the Angkor Wat temple complex, and enjoy a spectacular sunset from a tethered balloon. In the evening, a welcome dinner at a local deluxe restaurant. Overnight in Siem Reap. (D)
Siem Reap Angkor Temples: After breakfast, head out to see Angkor Thom. It is perhaps the best preserved of all the temples, and the layout and scale are equally breath-taking. At Angkor Thom you will see the South Gate, Bayon, Baphuon, the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King. Then go to visit a jungle temple overgrown by balsa wood trees and vines. This is the well known, Ta Prohm Temple with its air of mystery. In the afternoon drive out into the stunning Cambodian countryside to see Banteay Srei and Banteay Kdei temples. Banteay Srei is known as the ‘Women’s Temple’, and is associated with the supposed training of female soldiers to fight against the enemy. It is fairly unique in that it is constructed of a beautiful pink sandstone and decorated with intricate stone carvings. Overnight in Siem Reap. (B,L)
Siem Reap Angkor Temples and Beng Mealea: This morning, explore the hidden temple of Beng Mealea, which was decimated during the civil war. Visiting the site, one can almost imagines the ancient Khmer Empire as well as the recent wars. In the afternoon, there will be a boat trip to the floating village of Mear Chrey on the Tonle Sap Lake, Asia’s largest lake that swells to ten times its normal size during the wet season. Overnight in Siem Reap. Siem Reap Departure: After breakfast at hotel, then free time until transfer to Siem Reap Airport for your onward flight. (B)
